San Juan Islands

We had a great time on San Juan island. Although I was only on the island for a day and a half, it was enough time to make me want to come back and really explore the island more. The beaches on along the north and south side are worth spending the entire day on. Its a 360º panoramic view. I even saw a bald eagle. Stunning.

Family, Friends, Goodtimes

September has been a fun filled month with friends and family coming in from all over the country. Last week included my mother, and Reneé’s sister & brother-in-law. Talk a about tourists whirlwind! We went to Snoqualmie Falls for a second time, Mt. Rainier, and Port Townsend. The highlight was bar far Mt. Rainier. From Seattle, the volcano likes like it is only 20 minutes away. In actuality, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive there. Its just that freakin big. We hiked up the trail to about 6300 feet. That is basically the base of the volcano where the real trail begins. It was hard enough getting to the top of base camp. Maybe one day I will train and climb all the way to the top. Not anytime soon. The family left a few days ago. I am totally exhausted, but I have a new wave of friends that just came in. I plan on doing some drinking with them this weekend, catching up on old times. I post an update later this weekend…

The trip out on the boat was relaxing. It was just what I needed to end the summer.

Boating This Weekend

•September 4, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I look forward to our first real boating excursion this weekend. I’ve been on the ferry a few times, but that doesn’t really count. The boat, unlike the ones seen below, is actually fast and fun. The weather is going to be amazing too. I have to remember to bring sunscreen this time. One more day …I’ve been living for the weekend these days.

Tonight I am heading down to SODO to see a great Scotland band, Mogwai, play. If you haven’t heard them before, check them out!

Caffe Fiore

My friend Christian turned me on to this cafe, and since my first visit, I’ve been hooked. I stop by every Sunday for a latte before I go record shopping. It’s a stones throw away from the best record store in the city. The French Nouveau decor is beautifully crafted. It is cozy, and everything a European cafe should be. I give the place 5 stars for both quality of coffee and overall vibe.

We’ve been loving our new home. Its not big. Its not especially easy to park in the garage. Random things don’t work. Yet, we still love the place for the short time we may have it.

Snoqualmie Falls

•September 3, 2008 • 1 Comment

Reneé and I took an expeditious trip to Snowqualmie Falls. It was a much quicker drive than we expected. That might possibly be because people were not traveling as heavily on Sunday, as they were the other days of the weekend. It was also a lot closer than we assumed. We got there early and beat the parking lot gridlock. I expected something a little more outdoorsy, but we were greeted by a wealthy spa resort. From there, you walk down a path to the first overview. A steep trail takes you to the bottom, but the end of the trail gives you a partial view. From there, you have to get off the legit trail and climb down rocks for the better view. I set my camera down at the edge of the rocks and took one shot to test the lighting. At that very moment, my camera battery died. Silly me didn’t charge my batteries the night before. Needless to say, I did get one got shot out of the trip. It can be seen below. We also hopped on an old train for a half hour tour.

Good times!

Sea Planes

At first the noise bothered me, but now I have come to love the sight and sounds of the sea planes landing in the background of Lake Union. Especially on Sunday nights when we kick back and relax in the living room. Its amazing how quickly and steep they come in and out. I plan on getting on one before too long for a weekend up on San Juan Island.
